Mikel Arteta Confirms Extended Absence of Fabio Vieira Due to Injury
Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, has confirmed the unfortunate news that Fabio Vieira, the club's midfielder, will be sidelined for an extended period due to an injury. The Portuguese midfielder sustained an injury that requires weeks of recovery, as revealed by Arteta during his media briefing earlier today.
Arteta disclosed that Vieira underwent surgery for a groin injury, a procedure that took place yesterday, necessitating a significant period of rehabilitation. In Arteta's words, “Vieira has undergone surgery on his groin yesterday and he will be out for weeks,” shedding light on the seriousness of the situation.
While the Gunners gear up for their upcoming UEFA Champions League group stage clash against Lens this Wednesday, Vieira's absence poses a challenge. Despite leading the group with nine points, Arsenal needs only a single point to secure their qualification for the next stage.
Arteta also addressed Vieira's recovery timeline, stating that the midfielder is not expected to make a return until after the winter break, affirming, “We don’t expect him back this side of the winter break.”
Additionally, Fabio Vieira is presently serving a three-match suspension in the Premier League following his red card against Burnley several weeks ago. Consequently, the 21-year-old missed Arsenal's recent 1-0 victory over Brentford last week.
