FA Issues Final Warning to Roberto de Zerbi Over Referee Remarks
The English Football Association (FA) has issued a final warning to Brighton's coach, Roberto de Zerbi, following his statement expressing disdain for "80% of England's referees."
Brighton & Hove Albion currently holds the 8th position in the Premier League standings, securing five wins, four draws, and three defeats.
The incident unfolded on November 12, post a 1-1 draw between Brighton and Sheffield United, where de Zerbi voiced his frustration. The match witnessed Brighton taking an early lead in the 6th minute, a red card for Mahmoud Dahoud in the 69th minute, and an unfortunate own goal by Adam Webster in the 74th minute.
The intense game concluded with several contentious decisions by match officials, prompting coach De Zerbi to openly express his aversion towards English referees.
In his statement, he remarked, “I am honest and clear – I don’t like 80% of England’s referees. It’s not new. I don’t like them. I don’t like their behavior on the pitch.”
Consequently, Roberto de Zerbi has received an official warning from the English FA regarding making derogatory comments about match officials.
