Gary Neville claims that the VAR's choice to give Gordon a goal was "correct."
Gary Neville responded to Newcastle United's contentious goal against Arsenal.
As you may remember, the Gunners' winning streak came to an end on Saturday night when they lost to the Magpies at St. James Park.
Gary Neville responded to Anthony Gordon's goal by saying that referees had rendered the "right" call in awarding Newcastle's contentious victory over Arsenal.
Newcastle won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Anthony Gordon in the 64th minute, but the match was not without drama.
The goal reportedly underwent three different VAR checks: one to see whether Joe Willock retained the ball in play before crossing the goal line, another to determine whether Joelinton may have fouled Gabriel, and a third to determine whether Gordon was offside.
Taking to X, now known as Twitter, Gary Neville declared that referees had made the correct decision in the hotly contested game at St. James' Park.
'I thought the decision for the Newcastle goal was correct.
'The ball out was inconclusive at best, definitely not a foul for me and if the VAR can’t evidence offside the onfield decision should stand'.
One fan posted a still photo of the incident in response to Neville's remark.
The picture looked to show Newcastle's Joelinton obstructing Gabriel Magalhaes before Gordon scored.
The caption read: 'Arms fully extended'.
Neville then issued another response, as he said: 'He’d already bent forward to flick it on and he threw his legs back! I’ve tried to do it. It wasn’t a foul'.
