"It's embarrassing"- Mikel Arteta slams EPL referee after contentious Newcastle goal against Arsenal

Following the Gunners' disputed loss to Newcastle United, Mikel Arteta was very upset at this news conference.

Arsenal's Premier League winning streak came to an end on Saturday night at St. James Park as they lost 1-0 to Newcastle United.

Shortly after the hour, Anthony Gordon broke the tie with a close-range bunt into the back of the net.

However the goal wasn't given until after three VAR reviews. Three for a suspected offside, a foul on Gabriel Magalhaes, and the ball perhaps going out of play.

In the meanwhile, Mikel Arteta had some tough words to say about the refereeing when he addressed the media after Arsenal's 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United.

The Arsenal manager expressed his anger at the referee's decision to award the goal in spite of the circumstances mentioned by the VAR.

Mikel Arteta on the goal for Newcastle:"Embarrassing what happened, how this goal stands in the Premier League? This league we say is the best in the world."

"I've been 20 years in this country and now I feel ashamed. It's a disgrace and there's too much at stake here. We are trying to do incredible things and be at the highest level each week.

"When we're not good enough I hold my hands up and take responsibility. The outcome is nowhere near the level this league needs to have and the way this league is getting competed in."

"It's not good enough. I feel embarrassed to be part of this."

In addition, the Gunners were shocked to learn that captain Martin Odegaard would not be included in the matchday squad before kickoff.

Odegaard's fitness problem isn't believed to be significant, however, and he will be evaluated before the midweek Champions League matchup with Sevilla.
