Illbliss Defends Mode 9: Dismisses Phenom’s Negative Comments

Renowned indigenous rapper Tobechukwu Melvin Ejiofor, popularly known as Illbliss, has recently defended the honor of rap veteran Mode 9 following critical remarks made by fellow artist Phenom.
In an interview on The Yarns podcast, Phenom expressed his reluctance to emulate Mode 9's path in favor of achieving commercial success akin to that of Phyno, a stance Illbliss found disappointing and disrespectful.

Phenom conveyed his disinterest in following the footsteps of Mode 9 during the podcast, citing a preference for achieving a level of commercial success similar to Phyno's. He recounted a visit to Phyno's lavish residence and visualized a future with an opulent collection of Phantom cars in his garage, contrasting this image with what he perceived as a dated representation of Hip Hop culture embodied by artists like Mode 9.

Phenom said; “I don’t see Mode 9 as someone I want to be like. I would rather be somebody that is commercially successful. I was Phyno’s house few days ago, I wanna have Phantom parked in my house”

Illbliss, expressing his disappointment, highlighted that even Phyno, a contemporary in the rap scene, would not disrespect the Hip Hop pioneers who paved the way for their generation. Using his Twitter platform, Illbliss corrected Phenom's stance, emphasizing Mode 9's status as a living legend and his significant contributions to Hip Hop culture. He underscored the need to acknowledge and respect the profound influence of artists like Mode 9 on the genre.

Illbliss posted on Twitter:
"Even Phyno would never disrespect the Hip Hop pioneers that came before him, with phantoms parked in his garage. Really truly disappointed Phenom. Mode9 is a living legend, alive and well, incredibly decorated and respected for his contributions to Hip Hop culture. I hate the disregard!"

Through his Twitter statement, Illbliss aimed to correct Phenom's perspective, highlighting the importance of recognizing the immense contributions of trailblazers like Mode 9 within the realm of Hip Hop.

The exchange between Illbliss and Phenom highlights the ongoing debate within the Hip Hop community regarding the appreciation of rap veterans and the evolution of the genre. Illbliss's staunch defense of Mode 9 underscores the significance of acknowledging and honoring the legacy of those who laid the foundation for Hip Hop culture.
