Lagos State Discloses Ongoing Toxicology Investigation on Mohbad's Body in the U.S. to Coroner

The Lagos State government conveyed to Magistrate Adetayo Shotobi, during the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the untimely passing of Afrobeat sensation Ilerioluwa Aloba, commonly known as Mohbad, that the toxicology examination of his body was underway in the United States of America. This revelation occurred on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

During the inquest, other parties' legal representatives raised concerns about the delayed availability of the autopsy report. In response to these inquiries, a Lagos State counsel named O. Akinde clarified the pivotal aspect of the autopsy process.

Akinde stated, "The toxicology test, focusing on the internal aspects of the body, is currently undergoing examination in the US."

Surprised by this decision, the coroner inquired why the toxicology study had been outsourced overseas instead of utilizing local laboratories in Nigeria.

In defense of the decision, Akinde elaborated that Lagos State opted for the U.S. due to the alleged involvement of various substances either ingested or injected by the deceased. The primary concern was to avert potential controversy surrounding the eventual presentation of the autopsy report.
