Mikel Arteta identifies Aston Villa Douglas Luiz as possible replacement for injured Thomas Partey

Arsenal's manager, Mikel Arteta, has pinpointed Aston Villa's Douglas Luis as a potential replacement for the injured Thomas Partey.

The 31-year-old midfielder is facing an extended period on the sidelines, adding urgency to Arsenal's search for midfield reinforcements.

Thomas Partey's persistent groin injury has hindered his performance since the beginning of the season. Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano disclosed Arsenal's intention to bolster their midfield in January, with Douglas Luiz emerging as the primary target for the position.

While Arsenal had expressed interest in acquiring Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz last summer, negotiations with Villa regarding the transfer fee proved unfruitful. The current scenario makes signing Douglas Luiz in January a challenging prospect, as he recently committed to a contract extension with Aston Villa.

Complicating matters further, Thomas Partey's unavailability in January due to the African Cup of Nations leaves Arsenal in need of immediate midfield solutions. If Partey recovers from his injury, he could potentially feature for the Ghana national team in the AFCON.

Mikel Arteta's interest in Douglas Luiz is driven by shared attributes with Thomas Partey, particularly their physicality. However, the timing and contractual commitments pose obstacles to Arsenal's pursuit of the Aston Villa midfielder.
