In a candid assessment, Mauricio Pochettino didn't mince words as he labeled Chelsea's recent match against Newcastle as their poorest performance this season.
The Blues faced a humiliating 4-1 defeat at St James Park, as Alexander Isak swiftly put Newcastle in an early lead. Despite Raheem Sterling's commendable effort, leveling the score with a free-kick before the break, Chelsea's struggle continued.
The second half proved disastrous for Chelsea, with goals from Lascelles and Joelinton within a short span, comfortably securing a 3-1 lead for Newcastle.
Matters worsened for the Blues when Anthony Gordon netted a fourth goal after James received his second booking.
Mauricio Pochettino, observing from the directors' box due to a touchline ban, expressed his frustration, stating he was "angry and disappointed" with Chelsea's unraveling performance during the Premier League clash.
Pochettino said: “This was the worst game of our season so far”.
“We didn't show we were playing for something important… evern if we are young, it makes me very, very, very angry”.
The defeat left Pochettino visibly displeased, emphasizing the breakdown in Chelsea's gameplay throughout the match. The disappointing outcome against Newcastle serves as a significant setback for the Blues this season.
He added, “We cannot miss the opportunity to show ourselves at our best”.
