Ancelotti Tips Chelsea Loanee Kepa Arrizabalaga for Goalkeeping Role in Crucial UCL Match
Real Madrid's manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has provided a strong indication that Chelsea loanee Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to take the goalkeeper position when the Los Blancos go up against Union Berlin in their final UEFA Champions League group stage match this midweek.
This decision follows Kepa's recent return, although he remained on the bench during Real Madrid's draw against Real Betis over the weekend.
Despite the commendable performances of Real Madrid's third-choice goalkeeper, Andriy Lunin, who stepped up admirably in recent games against Granada and Real Betis, Ancelotti addressed the press, confirming Kepa Arrizabalaga's role in the upcoming Union Berlin match.
Ancelotti dismissed notions of fairness, emphasizing that both goalkeepers have showcased their reliability.
In discussing the situation, Ancelotti acknowledged Lunin's opportunities and commendable performances but stressed the strong form Kepa displayed in earlier matches.
The manager expressed contentment with the competition for the goalkeeper position, stating, "Fair or unfair is something I don't think about. Lunin has had the opportunity and has shown that he is a reliable goalkeeper. But we also have to consider that Kepa was performing very well in the games he had beforehand. We are very happy."
