Mauricio Pochettino Explains Tactical Move to Keep Reece James on the Bench for Manchester United Clash
In a strategic decision, Chelsea's manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has shed light on the choice to leave captain Reece James on the bench during the face-off against Manchester United.
Pochettino emphasized the importance of building James's momentum and confidence, indicating a deliberate approach to the player's participation.
Despite expectations of James's return to the starting XI after missing the win against Brighton, Pochettino opted for Marc Cucurella in the right-back position, citing the need to carefully manage James's playing time.
Notably, Cucurella was later replaced by James in the second half when Chelsea found themselves trailing.
The official Chelsea lineup featured Sanchez, Disasi, Silva, Colwill, Cucurella, Caicedo, Fernandez, Palmer, Sterling, Mudryk, and Jackson.
Despite their efforts, Chelsea suffered a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford, with two goals from Scott McTominay sealing the outcome.
Cole Palmer managed to equalize for Chelsea, nullifying McTominay's earlier strike, but the Scottish midfielder secured another goal in the 68th minute, securing the victory for the Red Devils.
