Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has escaped disciplinary action from the Football Association (FA) in relation to his remarks about officiating after the team's recent 1-0 loss to Newcastle.
Arteta had criticized the video assistant referee's decision to validate Newcastle's decisive goal at St James' Park, labeling it as "embarrassing" and a "disgrace," resulting in a misconduct charge.
An independent Regulatory Commission, however, ruled the charge as not proven after a thorough hearing conducted by the FA.
The goal in question underwent a comprehensive VAR review, focusing on three key incidents – whether Joe Willock had taken the ball out of play in the buildup, if Joelinton had committed a foul against Gabriel in setting up the goal, and finally, whether Anthony Gordon was offside during the scoring play.
In Arteta's written statement, he claimed that opposition players informed his team that the ball had gone out of play, despite VAR confirming otherwise.
Reports suggest that one contributing factor to Arteta's exoneration is Joe Willock informing Arsenal players post-match that he believed the ball had exited the field of play before he delivered the crucial cross for the goal.
Looking ahead, Arsenal is set to face Brighton Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium this Saturday, seeking to rebound from their recent disappointing defeat to Aston Villa.
Currently, Arsenal holds the second position in the Premier League, trailing behind Liverpool by a single point. Liverpool will take on Manchester United on Sunday.
