Erik ten Hag Reveals the Cause Behind Rasmus Hojlund's Absence in Manchester United vs Nottingham Match
In the final English Premier League encounter of the year, Manchester United faced Nottingham at the City Ground on Saturday. Coming off a triumphant 3-2 victory over Aston Villa earlier in the week, the Red Devils were soaring high after a comeback from a two-goal deficit in the first half.
However, the notable absence of Rasmus Hojlund, who scored the decisive goal against Villa, raised eyebrows as he was omitted from the matchday squad against Nottingham. Manchester United Coach Erik ten Hag shed light on the situation, disclosing that the 19-year-old Danish forward was sidelined due to illness.
Ten Hag stated, “Rasmus Højlund is not available today due to illness,” further explaining that Hojlund lacked the necessary strength and had not fully recovered, making him unfit to be included in the squad. The Manchester United boss emphasized, “He doesn't have the energy to start or be on the bench. You have to deal with it.”
Despite their efforts, Manchester United succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
DomÃnguez's goal in the 64th minute initially put Nottingham in the lead, but Marcus Rashford leveled the score in the 78th minute. Nuno Espirito Santo's side secured the victory with a late counter-attack, as Morgan Gibbs-White found the net in the 82nd minute.
