Manchester City Manager Clarifies the Exclusion of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne in the Encounter with Everton
In Wednesday night's clash against Everton, Manchester City emerged victorious, overcoming the obstacles posed by a resilient Everton side. Pep Guardiola, the manager of the Premier League champions, shed light on the absence of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne from the lineup.
City recently clinched their inaugural FIFA World Club Cup, defeating Fluminense in a historic final. However, the absence of Haaland and De Bruyne raised questions during their match against Everton.
Jack Harrison initially gave Everton the lead, but goals from Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez, and Bernardo Silva orchestrated a comeback for City at Goodison Park.
Addressing Haaland's fitness, Guardiola explained that the striker, recovering from a foot injury, has only participated in one training session with the team. Guardiola expressed optimism, stating, "Haaland feels better, but he hasn't completed a full training session with us. Hopefully, in January, he can rejoin the team."
Regarding Kevin De Bruyne, Guardiola admitted that the midfielder experienced fatigue due to intense training. De Bruyne, who had been sidelined since August, made a brief appearance in City's season opener against Burnley. Guardiola remarked, "De Bruyne trained with us last week, but today he showed a bit of fatigue because he's been training rigorously."
