Premier League Announces Exclusion of Christmas Eve Fixtures for 2024/2025 Season
In a decisive move, the Premier League has officially declared the absence of Christmas Eve fixtures for the upcoming 2024/2025 season. The league prioritizes the well-being of players, allowing them to spend quality time with their families during the festive period.
Season Details and Kick-off Date
The 2024-2025 season is scheduled to kick off on August 17, as confirmed by the league on a Friday announcement. This commencement comes precisely 90 days after the conclusion of the current campaign.
Conclusion of the Season and Christmas Eve Controversy
The final match of the 2024-2025 season is set for May 25, 2025. Notably, this decision follows a recent backlash regarding the scheduling of matches on Christmas Eve during the current season.
Addressing Congestion and Rest Time Commitments
In adherence to previous commitments made to clubs, the Premier League is actively addressing the congested schedule around Christmas and New Year. Special arrangements will be implemented to provide more rest time during three of the festive match rounds. Importantly, no club will play within 60 hours of another match, ensuring optimal recovery for the players. As a result, there will be a complete absence of fixtures on December 24, 2024.
Chelsea vs. Wolverhampton on Christmas Eve
In a separate development, it has been confirmed that Chelsea will face Wolverhampton in a Premier League match on Christmas Eve. However, this will be the last occurrence of such scheduling, as the league takes a proactive stance to preserve the holiday spirit for its players.
"In keeping with previous commitments made to clubs to address the congested schedule across Christmas and New Year, arrangements will be made to allow more rest time over three of the festive match rounds, with no club playing within 60 hours of another match. There will be no fixture on 24 December 2024," reads an official statement from the Premier League.
