Troost Ekong scored the penalty for Nigeria against Côte D'Ivoire in their AFCON clash
Nigeria secured 1-0 win over the host nation of the 2023 African Cup of Nations on Thursday evening.
Jose Peseiro side needed to get a win in the game after Equatorial And recorded 4-2 win over Guinea Bissau earlier in the game.
Nigeria played a 1-1 draw in their opening group stage match leaving the Super Eagles third in the group.
But Troost Ekong penalty in the 54th minutes was enough for Nigeria to move second.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria captain took the spot after Oshimen was undergoing treatment on the sideline.
It was Oshimen who won the penalty after Côte D'Ivoire defender Diamande hit the leg of the Napoli striker in the box while attempting a clearance.
Following a VAR check, the centre referee pointed to the spot which Ekong stepped up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way.
