Equatorial Guinea Dominates Ivory Coast in Shocking AFCON Upset in their final group stage match
Ivory Coast experienced a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Equatorial Guinea during their last group stage match on Monday night.
Equatorial Guinea, having drawn against Nigeria, secured victory against Guinea Bissau, while Ivory Coast managed to defeat Guinea Bissau but faced a loss against Nigeria in their second game.
Equatorial Guinea took control with a 42nd-minute lead, courtesy of Nsue, who scored twice for his team. In the second half, Ganet extended the lead to 2-0 in the 73rd minute. Shortly after, Nsue completed his brace, making it three for Equatorial Guinea. Buyla sealed the deal with the fourth goal in the 88th minute, securing their top spot in the group and a place in the round of 16.
Host nation Ivory Coast now faces the risk of an unexpected group-stage exit from the Africa Cup of Nations, as they finished third in Group A. Qualification hangs in the balance, with the hosts relying on other results to progress, given that the top four third-placed teams from the six groups advance to the last 16.
