Jordan Henderson Embraces New Chapter at Ajax with Shirt Number 6 After Being Denied His Dream Number

Jordan Henderson, the former Liverpool midfielder, has been denied his favored number 14 shirt at Ajax, owing to a strict rule honoring Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff.
It was reported on Thursday that the 33-year-old midfielder terminated his contract with Saudi Arabia side Al Ettifaq after just six months.

Jordan Henderson moved to Holland to undergo his medical and signed a contract with the Eredivise side.

Reportminds Blog understands that Jordan Henderson has picked a new shirt number which is different from his regular shirt number 14.

Jordan Henderson will wear jersey no 6 at Ajax and not his dream no due to the history behind the shirt no 14 at Ajax. The iconic number, retired since 2007, remains a symbol of respect for Cruyff's unparalleled contributions to the club.

Henderson, undeterred by the unavailability of his preferred number, expressed contentment with the assigned number six jersey. Shedding light on the situation, he remarked, "I’m not too fussed with numbers and stuff. 14 is my number, but obviously that’s a huge number here and that’s not allowed here, I found out."

The midfielder's move to Ajax materialized following the termination of his contract with Al-Ettifaq, just six months into his stint in Saudi Arabia. Ajax officially announced Henderson's signing on Thursday evening, sealing a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Notably, Henderson steps onto the pitch in Amsterdam with the number six jersey, a significant departure from the number 14 he adorned during his immensely successful tenure at Anfield. Reflecting on the choice, he shared, "I knew. I know why it’s been retired for Cruyff, which is understandable. Everyone here said they would like to give us the number six, so that’s good for me. It’s my son’s birthday as well. And my dad, when he played, was number six so hopefully it’s a good omen anyway."

As Henderson embraces this new chapter in his career, Ajax fans eagerly anticipate witnessing the midfielder leave his mark on the pitch, donning the symbolic number six shirt in homage to the legendary Johan Cruyff.
