A Fatal Road Incident Unfolds in Sokoto State
In a tragic turn of events, a photographer and a police escort lost their lives in a road accident involving the convoy of Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Engineer Idris Muhammad Gobir.
The unfortunate incident transpired at approximately 10:30 am on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, as Deputy Governor Gobir was en route to his hometown, Sabon Birni, to host Governor Ahmed Aliyu. Governor Aliyu was visiting the area to offer condolences.
The photographer, identified as Buhari Tanko Usman (pictured), was aboard the vehicle carrying security personnel assigned to the Deputy Governor. The vehicle reportedly skidded off the road and somersaulted at Yanrimawa area along Goronyo-Sabon Birni Road.
The Director of Press to the Deputy Governor confirmed the incident, revealing that the driver of the vehicle, a police officer, also succumbed to injuries in the crash. The deceased individuals have been taken to the mortuary.
According to ASP Ahmed Rufa’i, spokesperson for the State Police Command, the incident involved a pilot vehicle in the deputy governor’s convoy. He stated, "The incident involved a pilot vehicle on the convoy of the deputy governor, and the driver of the vehicle, who is a police officer, was confirmed dead together with one person, a photographer in the convoy."
As the injured individuals receive treatment at the Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto, the community mourns the loss of lives in this tragic accident that unfolded on the return journey from Sabon Birni Local Government to Sokoto.
