Renowned media personality Toke Makinwa recently shared her insights on the COP28 Climate Summit held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in the latest episode of her podcast, 'TokeMoments.'
The inclusion of Toke in Nigeria’s 1411-member delegation to COP28 sparked online controversy, with netizens questioning her role at the summit. In a conversation with Nollywood actress Ini Edo on the podcast, Toke addressed the backlash and revealed that she remained unperturbed until the nickname 'Item Seven' emerged during her stay at a Dubai hotel.
Responding to Ini Edo's inquiry about her participation in the summit, Toke expressed that she successfully achieved her objectives at COP28, despite the online criticism becoming one of the major trends associated with the event.
Toke Makinwa elaborated, "Yes, I accomplished everything I set out to do with COP28. I was just shocked [by the uproar]. And I think because Dubai is three hours ahead of Nigeria, I woke up to see the backlash on social media."
The turning point for Toke was when influential figures began referring to her as 'Item Seven' at a Dubai hotel where she encountered many important individuals. She shared, "For me, it started feeling serious when important people started calling me. And I think that for me was funny. I walked into this hotel in Dubai where there were a lot of important people, all of them have seen the backlash and they started calling me 'item seven,' and it was funny. We all just laughed. It was so funny."
