The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the distinguished lineup for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Team of the Tournament.
The announcement follows Ivory Coast's thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Nigeria in the final, securing their status as the champions.
Troost-Ekong Named Player of the Tournament; Osimhen Absent
The Player of the Tournament honor was bestowed upon Nigerian captain William Troost-Ekong, while Ivory Coast's Ronwen Williams claimed the Goalkeeper of the Tournament title. Notably, Nigeria's Osimhen did not make the cut for the team.
In the striking department, Equatorial Guinea's Emilio Nsue clinched the Golden Boot with an impressive tally of five goals. However, some anticipated selections, such as Khuliso Mudau, were surprisingly omitted from the official Tournament Team.
Nigeria and Ivory Coast Dominate the Best XI
Nigeria and Ivory Coast each contributed three players to the Best XI. Ola Aina, Troost-Ekong, and Ademola Lookman represented Nigeria, while Ivory Coast's Franck Kessie, Jean Michael Seri, and Ghislan Konan earned their spots.
Completing the prestigious XI were DRC players Chancel Mbemba and Yoane Wissa, alongside Golden Boot winner Emilio Nsue.
