Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong is set to undergo minor surgery this week in Finland to rectify an injury sustained during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Troost-Ekong incurred the injury during Nigeria's second group match against hosts Cote d'Ivoire, where he notably contributed by scoring the decisive goal from a penalty kick. Despite the setback, the 30-year-old was absent for the subsequent game against Guinea-Bissau. However, he demonstrated resilience by returning to the field and participating in every minute of the Super Eagles' remaining matches throughout the tournament.
The forthcoming surgery aims to address the injury sustained during the competition, paving the way for Troost-Ekong's recovery and potential return to action for his Greek club side, PAOK, towards the latter stages of the season.
If you recall that William Troost-Ekong was named the best player at the 2023 African Cup of Nations tournament.
The Nigerian defender scored three goals, which included a goal in the final against Côte D'Ivoire.
