Super Eagles vice-captain, William Troost-Ekong, underwent a successful surgical procedure in Finland on Tuesday night.
The surgery comes as a result of a hamstring injury sustained during Nigeria's second game against hosts, Cote d'Ivoire, at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Troost-Ekong, a key figure in the Super Eagles squad, featured in six out of the seven games played by the team during the tournament in Cote d'Ivoire. His contributions were instrumental in Nigeria's commendable second-place finish, during which he showcased his prowess by scoring three goals.
Notably, Troost-Ekong's exceptional performance earned him the prestigious Player of the Tournament title, solidifying his status as one of Africa's top defenders. With this achievement, he also clinched the title of the highest-scoring defender in the history of the AFCON.
While the former Watford and Udinese defender faces a period of recovery, it is anticipated that he will make a comeback towards the end of the season, eager to resume his contributions both at the club and international level.
