Former Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has accused Pep Guardiola of keeping discontented players within the squad.
Laporte's statement challenges Guardiola's narrative, who has seen several key players depart during his tenure, such as Joao Cancelo, Raheem Sterling, and Cole Palmer, the latter having impressed since his move to Chelsea for £42.5 million last summer.
In an interview with Radio Marca, Laporte expressed his disagreement with Guardiola's assertion, suggesting that it did not align with his own experience at the club. While Guardiola often claims that the door is open for unhappy players to leave City, Laporte hinted that this was not the reality for everyone, although he declined to delve deeper into specific instances, stating, "For several players it wasn’t like that but I’m not going to go into those type of things."
Furthermore, Laporte disclosed his frustration with Guardiola's tactical decisions, particularly his deployment as a left-back for City. Despite this dissatisfaction, Laporte acknowledged that he ultimately made the decision to leave and was able to do so.
