Manchester City's Ederson Sidelined for Up to a Month Due to Injury

Manchester City has received a significant setback with their goalkeeper Ederson set to be sidelined for up to a month following an injury sustained during the match against Liverpool. 

The Brazilian was injured in a late challenge on Darwin Nunez, which led to a penalty for the hosts. 

Despite initially remaining on the pitch, Ederson was ultimately replaced by Stefan Ortega due to the injury. 

The injury comes at a crucial time for Manchester City as Ederson is expected to miss the Premier League title showdown against Arsenal on March 31, along with several other important matches. The absence of their star goalkeeper is likely to be deeply felt by the team.

Ederson's Replacement 

Potential replacements for Ederson during his absence may include Stefan Ortega, who has demonstrated his capability as the club's backup goalkeeper and is set to continue between the sticks for the upcoming matches, including the quarter-final against Newcastle 23.

Pep Guardiola expressed concerns about the severity of Ederson's injury, stating, "It doesn’t look good," following the goalkeeper's collision with Liverpool's Darwin Nunez 1. 

What Ortega Said After Ederson Injury 

Additionally, Stefan Ortega, who replaced Ederson during the Liverpool match, expressed his readiness to step in when needed, saying, "If you are on the bench, you always think about what can happen if you go on the pitch," highlighting his preparedness and positive mindset. 

Guardiola previously acknowledged Ortega's capabilities, stating, "With the ball, he is really good, composure, patient, quality of the pass. That's why we decide," after starting Ortega in a previous match against Brighton 3.
