Following Manchester United's match against Coventry City, fans took to social media to express their frustration over a controversial last-minute penalty decision.
The Match:
Manchester United started strong, securing a 3-0 lead with goals from Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire, and Bruno Fernandes. However, Coventry City mounted a comeback, narrowing the gap with goals from Ellis Simms and Callum O'Hare.
Controversial Penalty:
In stoppage time, referee Rob Jones awarded Coventry City a penalty after Aaron Wan-Bissaka handled the ball in the area. Haji Wright converted the penalty, leading to a draw and forcing extra time.
Fan Reaction:
Many United supporters criticized the penalty decision, pointing out the inconsistency in refereeing. They highlighted a similar incident involving Jack Grealish in a previous match, where a handball was not penalized.
One fan wrote, "Got to feel for Wan-Bissaka. Grealish handball yesterday was not overturned, the trailing arm of AWB is punished." Another commented, "If they give that as a penalty I can’t even because that’s exactly the same as the Grealish handball." A third fumed, "That handball is in no way any different to the Grealish handball yesterday, most inconsistent refereeing."
