The Federal Government of Nigeria has decided to extend the public holiday for the Eid-El-Fitr celebration, initially declared for Tuesday and Wednesday, to include Thursday.
Reason for Extension
The decision came after the crescent for Eid was not sighted in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, indicating that the Eid celebration would be observed on Wednesday. Consequently, the Federal Government deemed it necessary to add an extra day to the holiday period.
Official Statement
A statement released by the Ministry of Interior Permanent Secretary, Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, on Tuesday confirmed the extension. The statement quoted, "The Federal Government has approved Thursday 11th April 2024 as an additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Fitr."
Government's Position
Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, the Honourable Minister of Interior, conveyed congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for completing a month of spiritual rejuvenation. He reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR's unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all its citizens.
