Nigeria Football Federation Names Finidi George as New Head Coach
Nigeria Football Federation has appointed Finidi George, former Super Eagles winger, as the new head coach of the nation’s senior men’s national team.
This decision was communicated through a statement on Monday, with the NFF Board endorsing the recommendation of its Technical and Development Committee to entrust the leadership role to the 52-year-old ex-Ajax Amsterdam and Real Betis forward.
George's immediate focus will be on leading the team to success in two pivotal 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and the Benin Republic. These matches are scheduled to take place in Uyo and Abidjan, respectively, within the next five weeks.
Previously, George served as interim coach, overseeing two friendly matches in Morocco last month. The team secured a 2-1 victory against Ghana but suffered a 0-2 loss to Mali during his tenure.
