Tensions Escalate After Syrian Consulate Attack
Iran made a significant move by launching drones from its territory towards Israel late Saturday, in the wake of an airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Syria. The attack, which resulted in the deaths of several Iranian generals, prompted Iran's Supreme Leader to vow retaliation.
Israel on High Alert
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, anticipating such retaliation, had previously stated that Israel had been preparing for the possibility of a direct attack from Iran for weeks. He emphasized Israel's readiness for any scenario, with its air defenses deployed for both offense and defense.
Supreme Leader's Warning
Earlier in the week, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had issued a stern warning, asserting that Israel would face consequences for the airstrike in Damascus. Describing the attack as a "wrongdoing" and equating it to an assault on Iran itself, Khamenei vowed that Israel "will be punished" for its actions.
