Israel Braces for Potential Iranian Retaliation: IDF Implements Precautionary Measures

Israel is taking preemptive measures in anticipation of potential retaliatory strikes from Iran, as military officials announced the closure of schools and limitations on trips nationwide.

The decision, disclosed by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) chief military spokesperson Daniel Hagari, follows heightened concerns over an impending attack, triggered by an Israeli airstrike targeting Iran’s embassy compound in Damascus, Syria, earlier this month. The airstrike resulted in the death of seven Iranian military advisers, including three high-ranking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officials.

Growing Concerns Prompt Action from Israel and Allies

The announcement coincides with escalating apprehensions among Israel’s allies regarding the imminent threat. President Biden, acknowledging the gravity of the situation, has altered his plans, opting to return from his weekend trip to Delaware to confer with his national security team regarding the unfolding events in the Middle East. Biden's remarks on Friday hinted at the likelihood of an attack from Tehran occurring "sooner than later," further heightening tensions in the region.

 IRGC Action Amplifies Tensions

Adding to the escalating tensions, members of the IRGC executed a bold maneuver by rappelling down from a helicopter onto an Israeli-affiliated container ship on Saturday, seizing control of the vessel, which flies the Portuguese flag, along with its crew. The Biden administration swiftly responded, urging Iran to release the ship and its crew immediately. Adrienne Watson, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, echoed this sentiment on social media, emphasizing the urgency of freeing the seized vessel and its international crew.
