Cardi B recently found herself in hot water after she was asked about the designer of her outfit at the Met Gala on May 6.
In response, she simply mentioned that she was wearing attire from an "Asian" designer. However, her choice of words sparked accusations of racism and dismissiveness towards the designer's work.
In her defense, Cardi B explained that she was feeling nervous and couldn't properly pronounce the designer's name, hence her vague reference to the designer's ethnicity.
TMZ reporters later approached Nigerian singer Ayra Starr for her thoughts on Cardi's mistake. Ayra stood by Cardi, empathizing with how nerves can cause slip-ups, especially on the high-pressure environment of the red carpet.
Ayra's supportive stance didn't go unnoticed by Cardi, who took to Twitter to express her gratitude, stating, "Ahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa try to be messy and mission failed ..also why put a superstar like Ayra in such a weird and uncomfortable position?"
In the midst of controversy, Ayra Starr's solidarity serves as a reminder of the importance of understanding and empathy in moments of public scrutiny.
