The incident occurred as Alves arrived in Campinas, Sao Paulo, where he was promptly apprehended by law enforcement officials.

Alves, 37, was taken to the 10th Police District of Campinas, where he spent the night following his arrest. His lawyer, Artur Eugenio Matias, issued a statement several hours after the arrest, addressing the situation.

Jo Alves, who once held the record for Manchester City's highest transfer fee of £19 million in 2008 when he joined from CSKA Moscow, struggled to establish himself at the club. Instead, he embarked on loan spells at Everton between 2009 and 2011, followed by a stint at Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig.

Returning to Brazil in 2011, Jo signed with Internacional. However, over a decade later, he finds himself playing for Amazonas, a Serie B club, after joining them at the beginning of the current season.
