Rio Ferdinand, a former Manchester United player, has shed light on the potential return of Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund. According to Ferdinand, the primary obstacle to Sancho's return lies in the presence of manager Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.
"I think the only way he goes back to Manchester United is if Erik ten Hag isn't there," Ferdinand said in a TNT Sports interview.
Sancho, who joined United in 2021 for £73 million, was loaned to Dortmund earlier this year due to strained relations with Ten Hag. Despite displaying inconsistency during his time at United, Sancho has notably flourished during his loan spell at Dortmund, making significant contributions to the team's progression in the Champions League.
Last night, Sancho played a key role in Borussia Dortmund's qualification into the final of UEFA Champions League.
In a recent interview with TNT Sports, Ferdinand expressed his belief that Sancho's return to Manchester United hinges on the departure of Erik ten Hag. He emphasized the importance of not undermining the manager by re-integrating Sancho without addressing any previous issues between them.
"They can't, in my opinion, discredit the manager by allowing a player to go without saying sorry and then bringing him back," Ferdinand added.
Sancho's recent standout performance for Dortmund, notably in their UEFA Champions League semi-final victory over Paris Saint-Germain, has further highlighted his potential impact on the pitch. Dortmund's successful campaign underlines Sancho's value as a player and raises questions about his future in relation to his former club, Manchester United.
