Former Chelsea Manager Maurizio Sarri Reflects on His Departure: "Leaving Chelsea Was My Biggest Mistake"
Maurizio Sarri, the Italian tactician, has expressed regret over his decision to leave Chelsea in 2019, describing it as his "biggest mistake".
In an interview with Sky, Sarri reflected on his tenure at the London-based club, acknowledging the strong foundation he built and the success they achieved together.
Sarri took the reins at Chelsea in July 2018, signing a three-year contract. During his time at the club, he managed 63 games, leading the team to a notable triumph in the Europa League. Despite the success, Sarri opted to return to Italy, joining Juventus in June 2019.
In retrospect, Sarri lamented his decision, stating: "Leaving Chelsea has been my biggest mistake. There was a good basis to stay there and continue at the club, I did a big mistake in that moment." He continued, "We won the Europa League, the project was great, but I wanted to return to Italy, unfortunately."
Sarri's tenure at Chelsea was marked by:
- Games managed: 63
- Trophy: Europa League winner
