Al Ittihad President Nazer Reveals Reason Behind Marcelo Gallardo's Sacking
Saudi Pro League club Al Ittihad has parted ways with head coach Marcelo Gallardo, and club president Nazer has revealed the reason behind the Argentine's departure.
In an official statement, Nazer stated, "Gallardo made significant mistakes by requesting the removal of Benzema, which is unacceptable." He further emphasized Benzema's importance to the team, saying, "He is an essential part of Saudi Arabia's and the club's project."
Gallardo was appointed as Al Ittihad's head coach in April 2022, signing a two-year contract. During his tenure, he led the team to 15 wins, 5 draws, and 5 losses in 25 matches.
Karim Benzema, the French striker, joined Al Ittihad in June 2023 on a two-year deal worth €75 million. He has since scored 12 goals in 15 appearances for the club.
Nazer confirmed that the club is already exploring options for a new manager, stating, "We have 2/3 options for a new manager." The search for Gallardo's replacement is underway, with the club seeking a coach who can lead them to success in the Saudi Pro League and beyond.
