A disturbing incident occurred in Surulere, Ondo State, on Friday, June 14, 2024, when a 45-year-old woman, identified as Abiodun ("Iya Sunday"), allegedly set her 86-year-old mother on fire, leaving her with severe burns.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident unfolded at the victim's residence, opposite the Anglican Cathedral Church in Ondo West local government area, around 5 am. Abiodun accused her mother of being responsible for her spiritual struggles before committing the heinous act.
The elderly victim, whose name has not been disclosed, suffered first-degree burns covering her entire body and is currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital.
This shocking incident has sparked widespread concern and condemnation, highlighting the need for greater support and care for the elderly and vulnerable members of our society.
