Why can’t Mbappé wear a French flag mask against the Netherlands at Euro 2024?

Kylian Mbappé, the French captain, has been spotted wearing a red, white, and blue mask, the colors of the French tricolor, in training. However, according to UEFA rules, he will not be permitted to wear it during the match against the Netherlands at Euro 2024.

The mask, which features Mbappé's initials, his national team number (10), two stars representing France's two World Cup victories, and the French Football Federation (FFF) logo, violates UEFA's branding and advertising regulations. Specifically, "medical equipment worn on the playing field must be of a single color" and "must not allow the team or manufacturer to be identified".

Mbappé's availability for the match against the Netherlands is still uncertain, despite French head coach Didier Deschamps stating that "things are moving in the right direction" on Thursday. Mbappé had earlier posted a cryptic message on Instagram, saying "without risks, there are no victories", giving French fans hope that he might feature in the match.

Deschamps had previously revealed that Mbappé would require surgery at some point, but it remains unclear whether that will take place during the tournament or afterwards. The French team is eagerly awaiting Mbappé's return, as they strive to secure the European Championship title.
