Following the initial checks, Calafiori will travel to the United States for the final stages of his medical assessment.

The 22-year-old left-back has established himself as a promising talent in Serie A, making 83 appearances for Bologna since his debut in 2020.

Last season, Calafiori played a crucial role for Bologna, featuring in 34 league matches and contributing to the team's 5th-place finish.

On the international stage, Calafiori represented Italy at the 2024 European Championship, making three appearances as the Azzurri reached the quarterfinals. He has also earned 10 caps for the Under-21 team and made his senior debut in 2022.

The transfer negotiations between Arsenal and Bologna have been ongoing, with the two clubs agreeing on a deal worth around £42m. As part of the agreement, Bologna will receive £42.3 million, while Basel will receive 50% of the sell-on fee. Calafiori has already agreed to personal terms with Arsenal, including a four-year contract that will significantly increase his current salary.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been instrumental in driving the transfer, identifying Calafiori as his primary defensive target. The club is keen to finalize the deal before embarking on their pre-season tour of the United States. Calafiori's preference to join Arsenal over other interested clubs, including Chelsea, has also facilitated the transfer process. Once completed, Calafiori is expected to become Arsenal's second summer signing, following the arrival of David Raya.
