Manchester United has announced that Antonio Valencia will be returning to Old Trafford in September to participate in a charity match between Manchester United Legends and Celtic Legends.
It's been learnt that the match, scheduled for Saturday, September 7, will see Valencia join forces with fellow United legends Dimitar Berbatov, Nicky Butt, and Paul Scholes, under the management of Bryan Robson and assistance of Andy Cole.
Valencia, who played for United from 2009 to 2019, made 338 appearances for the club, scoring 25 goals and providing 62 assists. During his tenure, he won numerous honors, including two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup, and the Europa League.
Valencia, who also founded his own foundation in his home country, expressed his excitement about the upcoming match, stating, "I'm so much looking forward to it. Every time that I get the invitation, I make sure that I can be there. It's going to be fun to see so many friends, the stadium, and my former team-mates."
The Ecuadorian winger, who also had a successful international career with 93 caps and 11 goals for Ecuador, emphasized the importance of supporting charitable causes, particularly those benefiting young people. "I've been an ambassador for UNICEF, while I was in Manchester, and I bought my own Foundation here in Ecuador. I try to help as many kids as possible. It's something I've always been keen to do."
The match against Celtic Legends, managed by Paul Lambert, aims to raise funds for the Manchester United Foundation, which works tirelessly to support young people in the Manchester area and beyond. Valencia praised the Foundation's efforts, acknowledging the significant impact they have on the community. "They are why I like to come to Manchester to support this, of course, because it's a really tough job to do. What they are doing for the young people around the Manchester area, and elsewhere, I know how much work goes into it."
