Merino, 28, has agreed to a four-year contract with an option to extend for an additional season, solidifying his commitment to the Premier League club until at least 2028.

Merino was a key target for Arsenal's manager, Mikel Arteta, who prioritized the midfielder despite Merino receiving offers from two other Spanish clubs. Arteta's determination to bring Merino to the Emirates was crucial in securing the transfer, as the player himself was eager to join Arsenal.

During his six-year stint with Real Sociedad, Merino made 242 appearances, contributing significantly to the team's midfield with his versatility and technical skills. He also found the back of the net 20 times for the club.
In addition to his club success, Merino played an integral role in Spain's victorious 2024 UEFA European Championship campaign. He participated in several matches and scored a vital goal in the quarterfinals against Germany, helping Spain secure the title.

This signing is seen as a major boost for Arsenal's midfield, where Merino is expected to partner with players like Declan Rice and Thomas Partey, offering the team greater depth and experience as they compete in both domestic and European competition.
