Big Sean Explains His Decision to Delay Marriage to Jhené Aiko After Eight Years of Dating and the Challenges They Face

Big Sean recently addressed the reason why he and singer Jhené Aiko have not yet married, despite their eight-year relationship.

In a recent appearance on the ‘Out of Context’ podcast with host Charlamagne tha God, Sean explained that he is not ready to marry Aiko because “there’s a lot of work that needs to be done.”

Sean elaborated, “It’s a little personal, you know what I mean? But just like to be real with you, just like any person who has dealt with love, we’ve had our ups and downs.” He noted that their relationship, which began in 2016, has faced its share of challenges. At the start of their relationship, Aiko was still married to producer Dot da Genius, whom she divorced in August 2016, citing irreconcilable differences.

Sean continued, “And I think it’s still finding the right navigation through it all. To me, marriage symbolizes, like, the best relationship. I would like to, and I don’t like putting our personal business out there like that either, but there’s a lot of work that needs to be done.”

In November 2022, Sean and Aiko welcomed their son, Noah. Aiko also has a 15-year-old daughter, Namiko, from her previous relationship with singer O'Ryan.

Sean had previously proposed to his ex-girlfriend, Naya Rivera, in October 2013. However, their engagement was called off six months later, and Rivera, who passed away in 2020, was not married to Sean at the time of her death.
