David De Gea, the renowned Spanish goalkeeper, has made a highly anticipated return to football after signing a one-year contract with Fiorentina.
Following a 12-year tenure at Manchester United, De Gea was released in the summer of 2023, leaving him without a club for a year. However, he has now found a new home in Italy, eager to revive his career and showcase his exceptional goalkeeping skills.
De Gea's departure from Manchester United was an emotional one, having made 545 appearances and being part of the squad that won the club's last Premier League title in 2013. He admitted struggling to accept his exit, but has now expressed his gratitude for his time at the club. "United is a top, top club and my heart will always be there," he said.
Despite the heartbreak of leaving Manchester, De Gea revealed he never considered retiring. Instead, he took a sabbatical to recharge and find motivation for a new chapter. "I spent a year in Manchester before returning to Madrid. I wanted to stay at a high level. I didn’t stop. It’s not easy to train alone," he explained.
De Gea is now focused on his new journey with Fiorentina, confident in his abilities and fitness level. "I am fit, I trained every day, even more than before. I am on a good level. Perhaps it will take some time in the first games, but I’ve been playing for many years, so you just need to put me in goal.” With his experience and dedication, De Gea is ready to make an impact in Serie A.
