Favour Ofili Advances to Women's 200m Final at 2024 Paris Olympics

Favour Ofili has made history by qualifying for the final of the women's 200 meters at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

In a standout performance during the semi-finals, Ofili recorded a season's best time of 22.05 seconds, securing second place behind Julien Alfred, who claimed victory with a time of 21.98 seconds.

This remarkable achievement is a significant milestone for Nigerian athletics. Ofili's advancement to the final marks the first time in 28 years that a Nigerian woman has reached this stage in the women’s 200 meters at the Olympics. The last occasion a Nigerian made it to the final was at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, when Mary Onyali earned a bronze medal. It is worth noting that Ofili was not yet born during Onyali's Olympic success.
