Heartland, a prominent team in the Nigeria National League (NNL), has appointed Emmanuel Amuneke, a distinguished former winger for the Super Eagles, as their new head coach.
The official unveiling took place on Monday, with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma leading the announcement at his office.
Amuneke, who is 53 years old, brings extensive experience to the role, having previously managed Egyptian club Misr Lel-Makkasa until February 2021. His appointment marks a new chapter for Heartland, which experienced a challenging season last year, culminating in their relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). The team ended the season in 18th place, prompting significant changes to their management structure.
In addition to the coaching change, there are ongoing discussions involving Heartland and Beyond Limits Academy, a newly promoted team, regarding the potential acquisition of the latter's NPFL slot. This move could help Heartland regain their position in the top flight of Nigerian football.
