Ilkay Gündogan has expressed his farewell to Barcelona fans following the announcement of his transfer to Manchester City.
The 33-year-old midfielder, who joined Barcelona last summer on a free transfer, has decided to return to Manchester City, where he previously played from 2016 to 2023.
In his farewell message, Gündogan conveyed his gratitude to the Barcelona supporters, stating, "Dear culers, after just one year it’s already time to say goodbye. I came here to face a new, exciting challenge, and I was ready for it." He also noted that his departure might benefit the club financially, which offers him some consolation.
During his short stint with Barcelona, Gündogan contributed five goals and 14 assists in 51 matches across various competitions. His return to Manchester City coincides with Barcelona's efforts to free up salary space to accommodate their new signing, Dani Olmo.
