Members of the Kwara State Fire Service have retrieved the body of an unidentified man from a domestic well in the Manjasurawa area of Ilorin, the state capital.
Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, spokesperson for the Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday.
“On Sunday, August 4, 2024, at approximately 08:23 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service was summoned to a rescue operation at Aliara Street, Manjasurawa Area, Ilorin,” the statement read. The report described the initial alert as a call for urgent assistance to address a serious situation involving an individual trapped in a well.
"An unidentified man, estimated to be about 38 years old, was found drowned in a domestic well. The firemen promptly commenced their rescue operation and recovered the man dead." The statement detailed that despite the fire service's swift response and efforts, the individual was found deceased, indicating that he had been submerged for an unknown period before recovery.
"His body was handed over to DCO Olatunji of the Nigeria Police Force, Ganmo Division." Following the recovery, the body was transferred to the custody of DCO Olatunji from the Ganmo Division of the Nigeria Police Force, who will oversee the subsequent procedures.
“An investigation is ongoing to ascertain the cause of the incident.” Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the man's drowning, aiming to provide clarity on how the incident occurred.
