Manchester United Secures De Ligt and Mazraoui in Transfer Deals
Manchester United announced on Tuesday the acquisition of Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt and Moroccan full-back Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich. This move bolsters the Premier League club’s defensive lineup as they continue to strengthen their squad.
De Ligt has signed a contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2029, with an option to extend for an additional year. Mazraoui, meanwhile, has agreed to terms that will keep him at the club until June 2028, also with a one-year extension option. While the exact transfer fees were not revealed, British media sources estimate the combined cost to be over £50 million.
Both players, aged 25 and 26 respectively, have a notable history with current United manager Erik ten Hag. They previously played under his guidance at Ajax Amsterdam, where their careers began. Mazraoui, who transferred to Bayern from Ajax in 2022, made 55 appearances for the German side across all competitions. In his debut season, he played a key role in Bayern's victory in the Bundesliga and the DFL-Supercup.
