Oba of Benin Honors Rema with Royal Plaque Ahead of Homecoming Concert

Oba Ewuare II of Benin recently honored Afrobeats sensation Rema, whose full name is Divine Ikubor, by presenting him with a royal plaque.

This recognition occurred during Rema's visit to the Oba's palace ahead of his highly anticipated homecoming concert at the Ogbe Stadium in Benin City.

The plaque was a gesture of appreciation for Rema's efforts in promoting the cultural heritage of the Benin Kingdom through his music. Rema, a native of Benin City, has consistently highlighted his pride in his Edo roots, which is evident in his music, including his latest track, Benin Boys.

The event took place just after Rema participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Edo Arena, where Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, announced that the 6,000-capacity venue would be named "Rema Dome" in the artist's honor, further cementing his status as a cultural ambassador for Edo State.
