The Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) has honored D’Tigress’ coach, Rene Wakama, as the best coach of the Paris 2024 Olympic Women's Basketball Tournament.
In an announcement made on Sunday evening, the International Basketball Federation took to its X handle to declare, "Best coach of #Paris2024 Women’s Basketball, Rene Wakama, Nigeria."
Wakama, 32, led the Nigerian women's basketball team to their first-ever quarterfinals appearance at the Olympic Games. Under her guidance, D’Tigress secured a historic 79-70 victory over Canada, advancing to the quarterfinals.
Despite their remarkable run, the team’s journey was halted in the quarterfinals following an 88-74 loss to the United States.
Nevertheless, the Nigerian team made history by becoming the only African basketball team, male or female, to reach the last 16 at the Paris 2024 Olympics, marking an impressive milestone for African basketball.
