A notorious motorcycle robber has been apprehended by local security operatives in Akoko North Local Government Area of Ondo State for the brutal murder of two commercial motorcyclists and theft of their bikes. The suspect was caught while attempting to flee with one of the stolen motorcycles at Akunnu Akoko, a border town between Ondo and Kogi states.
According to a source in the community, one of the victims, Dada Jatto, a 28-year-old father of two from Iyani Akoko, was lured into a bush by the assailants where he was killed and left to die. "Jatto was reported to be missing for about three days and we organized a search party for him. We, however, discovered his mutilated body with his damaged phone along Arigidi Akoko and One Agbe road, but without his motorcycle," the source explained.
The suspect struck again, luring an Hausa commercial motorcyclist from Ikare Akoko to his hideout along Arigidi road, where he hit him with a sledgehammer on the head. The victim was found unconscious and taken to the hospital, where he provided a description of the suspect before succumbing to his injuries a few hours after the suspect's arrest. "The young man was unconscious and his motorcycle was taken away too, but he was found unconscious by some people and we took him to the hospital for medical treatment," the source said.
The suspect was eventually caught by a vigilante group at Akunnu Akoko, attempting to flee with one of the stolen motorcycles. Funmi Odunlami, spokesperson for the State Police Command, confirmed the incident, saying, "One of the cases was reported and investigation had commenced into the incident." She assured that other culprits would be arrested and brought before a court of law, stating, "We will ensure that justice is served."
