Randy Waldrum, head coach of the Super Falcons, has attributed the team's early departure from the women's football competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics to insufficient preparation.Nigeria's campaign ended at the group stage on Wednesday with a 3-1 loss to Japan, following earlier defeats to Brazil and Spain.
In an interview with ESPN, Waldrum discussed the challenges faced by the team: “We prepared for them (all three opponents) based on the fact that we haven’t had a lot of time.” He noted that the limited preparation time hindered their readiness.
He further explained, “We missed the last window before the Olympics, and so we missed 10 days of good training before the Olympics.” This remark indicates that the team lost a crucial period for effective training due to scheduling conflicts.
Moreover, reports indicated that visa problems contributed to the preparation issues. Some of the selected players experienced delays in arriving at the training camp, which disrupted the team's overall preparation.
